Making a List...Checkin' it Twice

I knew I had officially turned into an "old lady" when I realized that I looked forward to Christmas cards in the mailbox more than presents under the tree!

Does anyone else love getting them as much as I do? It's so fun to see red and green envelopes mixed in with the bills and junkmail. Plus, I love to catch up with my friends from long ago. It's fun to see how many states in the Union are represented on the address labels, to ooh and ahhh over photos and read the newsy letters. We hang them up in the kitchen and feel surrounded by our loved ones all season long!

I love sending cards too. From the time I was 11, I remember spending my babysitting money on my own boxed sets and sitting on the floor, listening to KSFI FM 100 Christmas carols while I addressed them. (To whom? I have no idea...) It just feels like such a fun and easy and happy way to spread holiday cheer.

So...if you would like to be on my Christmas card list this year, please email your address ("real names" would be helpful, too!) to thegabblog@gmail.com and I will send a little holiday cheer your way. If you are already on my mailing list, of course you are getting one--like it or not.

This is what you will receive: one handwritten card, one family photo, no Christmas letter. (I used to think it was kind of narcissistic to write a family newsletter...that was before I started writing the complete-18-volume-illustrated-leatherbound-matched-set on narcissism, aka The Gabblog!) I will probably not have it in your mailbox the day after Thanksgiving (unlike Stie who has already stuffed her envelopes, I am sure...) but I will get it there before 2008 rolls around!

Can't wait to start addressing those envelopes. See you at the mailbox...

Oh yeah...this is going to be almost as much fun as watching my comments trickle in: watching my Christmas cards from my fun blog friends arrive. It will be a little extra fun to have something tangible in my hand from you!

I am in the same boat as you- I LOVE getting the cards. This time of year is the best for mail. I used to work at the MTC mailroom and it was nuts around this time (I even sported a walkie talkie to communicate where to send missionaries to pick up packages because there were soooo many). Anyway, I emailed you...I hope I get on your list!

I am in that old lady group too then. I love Christmas cards. I agree with Jessica, it makes the blogging friends seem more real if you have an actual card to show for it in the mail.

Put me on your list!

christmas cards are the BEST. i keep all of the ones i get each year (at least the photo ones.) my mom has all the photo cards from like her entire married life in binders. it is so much fun thumbing through, checking everyone out... seeing how they've changed. i love the idea of sending cards to blogging friends too. fabulous. maybe i'll do it too!

Oh, Gab! A girl after my own heart!!! I have been working on them all week! I was up way too late working on it. We did our pics on Saturday. Mine have been hand made since I sent a birth-announcement/Christmas card for Jane in 1999.

Anyway, I was actually planning on adding a few of you blogger gals to my list this year, too!

I am a Christmas card freak. I love getting them more than anything else that happens at Christmas. It is sad.

When my sister was addressing her envelopes a couple of years ago her boss told her that sending Christmas cards was a dying art. I am glad to see that there are people that get just as excited as me about their Christmas cards! I have most of my addresses in the computer on a label spreadsheet and the idea for my cards in my head but I haven't started making them. Sometime this week, I hope!

Ah, Christmas cards. I think I check my mail box almost as much as I check my e-mail when the holidays roll around. I LOVE Christmas cards. I especially love the family photos in them. I hope you have been saving your pennies for stamps cause I bet you get a LOT of requests to be on THE LIST!

Wow! So much in common. Love, love, love Christmas cards!

I, too, remember being in middle school and buying my little box of cards to address to all my friends even though I saw most of them every day. I still send them to all the people I see regularly.

People think I'm crazy when I tell them how many I make and send each year. I really enjoy doing it, too.

I just hope to be able to get to it this year. I'm drowning in PTO stuff this year until the first week of December. Yikes. So I haven't even designed mine yet. Scary and sad... I have actually considered a New Year's card this year. I hope it doesn't come to that.

I would love to be on your Christmas card list!

Why are my comments always so long? I seriously need to work on this...

I must be the grinch. I don't like the obligatory Christmas card tradition. If it's a photo, I think it's fun, but I think just a card is a waste of money, and the letter describing everyone's glowing, fabulous life is cheesy. (Blogs are much more sincere. They're ongoing, and real.)

I like sending a few cards out to very close friends and family, but I'm starting to feel like it's silly for ME to be sending family photos of all seven of my kid's families. If I had a recent family photo of all of us together, it might be different, but to try to collect everyone's up-to-date photos (which they are sending out in their cards, and maybe giving me for Christmas) seems an imposition at a crazy time of year. And the 34 person collage, (trying to find the cutest, make sure everyone is represented equally, have the sizes correlate, and then coordinate them for folks that have their own 34 person family) seems overwhelming to everyone.

I send out Thanksgiving cards some years, and write a note to express appreciation and love to friends and family I won't see otherwise. It's unexpected and therefore not obligatory. That's fun for me. I figure if I'll be able to wish someone Merry Christmas in person, or if I'm giving them a gift, the card is an expense of time and money I can eliminate.

What a Scrooge I am!

The cards seem like a lot of pressure to me, but I will be excited to get yours. I do like to read them and admire them and wonder at everyone's creativity.

Unlike mom, I definitely look forward to Christmas cards. I like to have a family picture taken at that time too, so at least somewhere it is documented! I can't wait to see yours... stick me on your list!

You are all on my list. Except for the Grinch.
