Annual Halloween Feast

The Menu:
Chips, Salsa, Crudites and Pistachios
Spooky Spider Punch (apple juice with plastic spiders frozen into the ice cubes)

Strawberry Spinach Salad & Rolls
Bug-infested Jello (more plastic flies and spiders...hopefully "unleaded"!)

Dinner in a Pumpkin
Ghost Cake with Flaming Eyes

The Decor:

Anything plastic, orange or black from the dollar store
Let kids get creative!

The Guests:

Our own little goblins
&
Some frightfully delightful cousins from Telford!

Dinner in a Pumpkin:

Brown 1 lb. ground beef with half a diced onion, 1 tsp. oregano, 1 tsp. basil, 2 tsp. garlic salt, 1/2 tsp. fresh pepper. Stir in 1 large can tomato sauce and 2 cups cooked rice. Pour into hollow pumpkin shell, top with pumpkin "lid" and bake on a cookie sheet for 1 1/2 hours at 350.

**Note...this is NOT my favorite meal in the world. But my kids just love eating out of a pumpkin (except Sam...he was grossed out). And at least I didn't serve Halloweenies!

Ghost Cake with Flaming Eyes:

Bake favorite cake in a 9x13 pan. Frost with white frosting. (I like spice cake with cream cheese frosting.) Draw a ghost on top. Use two half eggshells to hold the eyes. Soak two sugar cubes with lemon extract, place in shells and then light with a match. Very cool and very spooky!

You are the coolest holiday mom! I love the flaming cake idea especially.

This is the extent of my holidaying this time around: I let the kids go to town decorating the house themselves today. Not everything's necessarily where I would put it but they had a blast. The tackier the better, was their philosophy!

Okay, see, I do this whole dinner...but I do it ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT? Am I an idiot or what?

And I want to come to yours. I'd wear my Halloween shirt.

Our Halloween dinner is carrots (orange) and all the candy you can eat before Mom trashes it. That pumpkin dinner looks seriously cool. And I like the plastic and orange idea. I can't stand spending a lot on temporary decorations, but the kids love the decorating.

So clever! What a nice Mommy you are. I'm kind of a Halloween scrooge this year. Just too much going on to get into it. I'm taking notes for next year though!

You are an awesome mom! I love it! I so have NO desire to do this. But I do want to appear to my children like the cool mom, so I am ordering the jackolantern pizza from Papa Murphy's for our Halloween dinner.

You are one spirited mom! Love it. Don't tell my kids or they'll want to move to your house.

Your blog is awesome!!!! I just found it through Jessica. I can't wait to read your story about creating your family through adoption and in-vitro. We have one son we adopted and are thinking of in-vitro since the regular route still isn't working! I hope you don't mind me checking in!! Your family is adorable and you are so awesome!! My blog is www.quirkykirky.blogspot.com. Hope to chat with you sometime!!

What a riot. You put my bat pumpkins to shame! I with Rochelle and we do the Pappa Murphy's Pizza too. My kids get free cookie dough if they go in with their costumes on!

I love the flaming eyes cake. My grandpa always served us ice cream with a flaming sugar cube on it. No matter how many times he did this, he was always the most excited! He just passed away this month and reading your blog gave me a special moment to remember something special about him. Thanks!

In the Halloween spirit... you've been tagged as One Sweet Treat to Read! Now you get to tag three of your favorites and put the little candy corn guy in your sidebar!

I am coming out of lurking to tell you how fun this dinner looks and how much I enjoy your blog in general. Thanks for including the recipe - I'm filing it away for next year.

Oh I am sooo stealing these delights. I'm doing the ghost mashed potatoes and yummy apple cider tonight but I'll add all this fun stuff (if I can get it together...hmmmm....probably not...maybe next year!?).
