I'll Know I'm a Native When...

...I can wear dark wash jeans in triple digit temperatures.

...I don't keep circling the parking lot, looking for nonexistent shade.

...I get the hang of using all my major appliances during "energy saving" hours.

...I can pronounce Spanish words other than salsa and guacamole.

...I can actually find a location after people say things like "It's on the SE corner of Alma School and Baseline."

...I don't get overexcited about spotting hummingbirds, quail and lizards.

...I can squeeze myself a glass of grapefruit juice from a tree in my own backyard.

We've survived our first August! Maybe I'm a native already...

I don't know if I would ever be able to wear dark wash jeans there... ever. That place sounds sizzlin'.

Congrats on the survival of your first August.

Oh yeah baby, surviving AZ in August is not to be trivialized. You made it!! (And I say this as a drippy humid puddle from south Texas).

Don't forget to incorporate queso and pico de gallo into your Spanish as well. ;)

I'm so glad there's something else to see on your blog besides my big bang wave, bow & army watch (I was so cool), Oma's high hair, Nim's puffy sleeves & brads white tux tails. (You do look beautiful in that pic.)
I've loved the glance back, but thanks for moving forward.
The temple there looks so neat. I can't wait to come see it in Feb. or March or January.
Congrats on your feat!

Wowza! As we say at my house, "hot cha chas!" As much as I complain about the cold, I'm not sure I could handle the heat. I'm glad you are surviving and are so happy about it!

Your pictures are beautiful. What fun scenery. SO different. And is that picture really of your backyard? GORGEOUS!

I don't know how anyone wears jeans PERIOD there. I was wearing capris when I was there last and that was in February. Oh and speaking of February, my brother's lemon & orange trees bloomed then and it was SO pretty. The other thing that was funny was the giant crate they had in the church parking lot to collect lemon donations for food banks. Only in AZ...

Amazing! It's all so beautiful and different.

My parents were married in that temple! Maybe some day I'll come down and visit you and see it for myself.

Ugg! I'm sweating just from reading this. I'd be a grumpy resident.

I may have added more words to my Spanish vocab., I finally learned the Arizona style of directions, but I still get a thrill & excitement with humming birds & quails, not so much with lizards/gechos, especially when coming home to a baby rattlesnake devouring one of the said in my garage! The heat will always get me, I hibernate in air conditioning in the summer! Glad all is well for you all!
