Resolute

So. We're six days in and I still haven't made any. Resolutions, that is.

The kids did...

  • Luke--Learn to read.
  • Sam--Learn to tie shoes.
  • Em--Memorize times tables 0-12.
  • Jake--Achieve First Class in Boy Scouts.

Now those are some resolutions. They have a beginning and an end. And they will all, most likely, be checked off the list before the ball drops next December. In other words, they will be resolved.

But what's a thirty-nine-and-a-half-year-old supposed to do? I'm not sure.

I refuse the usual exercise more/eat less/save more/spend less/organize more/clutter less promises. Those are about as exciting (and unending) as a resolution to keep the kitchen counters clean. I want something a bit more jazzy this year.

If you have some good suggestions, I would love to hear them. Seriously.

In the meantime, here are a few glimpses of our frozen tundra. The snow is gone, but the air is absolutely painful and all the moisture in the grass has turned to ice.

So, of course, my kids are outside with no coats on.

We have our own skating pond!
(Yes, camouflage is considered a wardrobe neutral. Try it sometime.)

I got nothing for you. I HATE with a passion all of those usual/boring resolutions.

Love the camouflage. I have one around my house with the same fashion sense.

and I think that comment is in the running for one of the most helpless/boring comments ever.

I'm a fan of the "I will not" resolutions. I will not start smoking. I will not sell crack. You know, things I can reasonably accomplish and pat myself on the back for each year.

One of mine is to memorize The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Something that requires work, but is still attainable.

I was going to resolve not to be a strange lady that leaves comments on blogs of people who don't really know who I am, but I knew my self-control wouldn't last. See?

I'm with you I don't make the same boring unending resolutions. I still haven't really made mine yet.

I know I want to take more pictures of my kids and blog more. Are those considered resolutions?

I always want to make sure that I learn from my mistakes and also my trails that I have had the year before. As I think there is a lesson HF wants us to learn in those things that will make us a better person.

that picture made me SO cold. The only resolution I can think of that has a beginning and an end is to read the entire Standard Works this year. I've done it for a couple of years and NOTHING has blessed and improved my life more.

My boys wear their camoflauge with everything they own. It works.

A couple of my resolutions have an end. I want to finish the three quilts I have started over the years. I want to do a December daily album. And most of all, I want to be a writing mother.

My son's (8) was to get two strikes in a bowling game. Yeah, he did that on New Year's Day. Wouldn't that be nice to be done on Jan. 1?

Love your blog--it makes me smile and remember. Our 6 children are grown and live in 6 different states. I like resolutions like: I will go out to lunch more often. I will go to the movies at least monthly. I will plan fun Friday Night Dates with my hubby. I will go to Nordstroms and buy the perfect pair of jeans. I will buy one pair of shoes each month at endless.com.
These are goals I can have fun with!

Solomon wears double camo. Top and bottom and not even the same camo but he's happy. Let's see, goals for Gab...
Wake up at 5am 5 days a week and teach sleepy teens gospel principals, be an advocate for children, travel with children and show them amazing things, be a room mother, cook amazing meals etc. Gab, I think you're set in the goals department. Maybe, go to a great concert or travel with husband (no kids).

Resolutions schmesolutions.

I with Christie. I won't make the goal to lose weight but I will make the goal to not gain any more weight. That works.

i don't do resolutions anymore. it's easier to make improvements gradually over the year, and doesn't leave me feeling pressured and unsuccessful.

I don't normally do resolutions, but this year I am running a marathon...which isn't really a new years resolution, I just want to do it before I'm 35.

And I am giving up caffeine, which so far has been harder than the marathon!!

I really love what Queenieweenie said.

I also love what Stie said, too.

I resolve to continue to be Little John's life coach. That's about all I accomplish.

I LOVE what you said about camo being wardrobe neutral. You always make me laugh

This year I am resolved to end more days happy than sad/stressed/angry/spent and I'm hoping the rest will take care of itself.

Ya know, I'm not great at resolutions either. Why resolve to do something new? Isn't what I have to do already enough?

I've decided that this year I want to be happier. And I think that's a pretty good resolution.

I like the kids resolutions. They are a lot like expectations. And that is good for kids.

I am still mulling mine over as well. But I thought this post was pretty powerful.
