My Affliction

It's not so much the PMS that gets me down.

Mostly it's the P.M. Mess...

(From upper left--clockwise: Game Cupboard Explosion, Chocolate Chip Eruption, Maple Syrup Flooding--technically an AM Mess, but still not a good omen for the rest of the day, "Educational" Rice Bucket activity dumped onto patio, Em cleaning the LANDING ABOVE THE FRONT DOOR! (Who is throwing all the Webkinz across the double-story entry hall anyway?), One-Eighteenth of my Weekly Laundry Love, Self-serve snack bar & Random Basement Shots.)

Anyone else suffering? What's your treatment plan?

send em to gramma's! or send yourself! or threaten, or........ good luck! my kids are out in 5 days, ugh! but then again, so is my husband!

So clever! Yeah...we're afflicted here, too. My mom used to call for a 5-minute blitz where everyone did a quick, mad pickup at the end of the day.

Hire a maid? "Nobody goes anywhere, does anything, and no dinner until this mess is cleaned up!" Yea, that probably doesn't work either! Good luck, it won't last "forever"!

What do I do - I'm bugged by the PMS AND the PM Mess. No help. My kids are like tornadoes around here.

P.S. Love Miss Em on the LEDGE ABOVE THE FRONT DOOR. How did she get up there?

The nice thing about blogging is now you have a constructive approach to messes - really, if you didn't have them, what would you have taken pictures of this afternoon, turned into a picasa collage and shared with us?

i just refer you back to your previous post, where the rooms were in perfect order. at least we know there's some reality in your life as well!!

Oh girl, I can relate.

I turn everything off and make them pick up 12 things. If they refuse, I don't feed them. ;)

It usually works if I make it a competition. Next week my older two are going to Grandma's!

Oh, I'm so glad my house isn't the only one with this kind of problem! Holy cow...it's never ending isn't it?

I hear you loud & clear...& it makes me crazy!!! I get so frustrated going from room to room only to find yet another mess. I'm trying to be more relaxed about it, but no luck so far.

Wow . . . so glad to know that kind of stuff happens at somebody else's house as well. And the PM Mess makes me PMS even worse.

Yeah, the PM mess...not my favorite but I love it when hubby comes home and declares Marshall Law. Boy, those kids can clean fast when dad's in town!

Too cute...I love it. I only have one kid and can barely manage...I think maybe that is why I can't get pregnant. You answered my question! I can't handle the PM Mess!! lol

I'm with Christie. I want to know how Em got up on that ledge?!

Today I tried to keep my kids out all day so the house would stay clean. This morning I woke up to one of the boys bed soaked in pee and the other one in vomit.

Your solution will present itself in 10-15 years when the kids aren't around much. My PM Messes have drastically reduced. We used to do a 20 pickup every night...I have 7 kids so we got a LOT of stuff picked up! =)

Oi, I'm with ya! They're killing me slowly with clutter! I'm close to surrender and summer's coming. Help!

Oh, I love Cathy's comment, cause hello!!? Today was my housekeeper and it was first day this week I didn't cringe every time I went upstairs. It's gonna be a long summer...

I'd love to know myself. We have a playroom that is ALWAYS in chaos. I try not to even go in there anymore. I have no energy by the PM so I give the kids a list of chores in the AM and we start the day with a semi clean house.

I don't deal with PM Mess...I go take a nap and dream of a beautiful, clean home.

(This method is unsuccessful, BTW!)

I'm actually getting a little sad because we only have one backpack explosion over here now instead of three.
Some times I would set a timer and play Beat the Clock...better than Beat the Kids.

Hire a babysitter for the DAY! Take off, and do a little retail therapy.. :)

I'm Jen (Marci's sister). Thx for your post of your day of chaos. I have four boys under the age of 6, so you make me feel like there are other people out in the world that deal with syrup spilling. I have no advice for you other than the good moments far out weigh the messy ones. Good luck getting it all cleaned up.

Just go to bed. But then you have to deal with the AM Mess.

I am suffering! I am suffering! You are SO clever! "The P.M. Mess" positively BRILLIANT!

But, I am still suffering.

Wow! Em is such a great helper to clean up the landing above the door! The funny thing about that to me is...I was just visiting teaching this past week and there were toys on the landing at my friend's house. I joked that they were on display. They couldn't get theirs down without a ladder. Did Em have to climb a ladder?

Keep your Dustbuster fully charged too. :)

How did Emmie get up on the ledge? Is this part of a summer rappelling course?

I was wondering how you got pictures of my house, then realized it was yours! I feel your pain!!!

I'm with Diane on this one, I miss the explosions. I know I'm crazy.

Thanks for the pictures, I feel better now that I know your kids are normal. I have a climber also, it's a little nerve rattling isn't it?

Too funny...I don't have any advice, if I did I probably wouldn't have the same problem. Messes are an every day, all day thing at my house:) Although I have tried having a race to pick up messes, or giving them a specifi time, and setting the buzzer.
