The Books in my Life

Is anyone else out there a reading two-timer?

I HAVE to have more than one book going, mostly so I don't have to run up and downstairs more than necessary.

Usually I really like one and only sorta like the other...but right now I'm in the middle of THREE amazing reads. I feel it is my duty to recommend.

Here they are:

This is the audible book I am listening to while I clean the kitchen and fold laundry. I will confess it is SO good, I've actually been finding excuses to mop. Along the same vein as The Thirteenth Tale or Possession, the plot jumps from past to present with stops in Brisbane, London and Cornwall. Absolute heaven.

This is my pool-bag book. I've read it before, but I could read it 100 times. Haven Kimmel is in my Top Ten list of favorite authors. Her descriptions are so funny, you find yourself actually giggling. Out loud. I recommend sitting some distance from other pool-moms as you read due to the possibility of audible snorting. Potentially embarrassing.

This is my nightstand book. 1943, Chicago. Three Irish-Catholic sisters writing to their soldiers. Need I say more? Why is WWII so romantic, anyway? Very nostalgic and full of homefront details. I want to go read some right now.

What are you guys reading?

I am adding all three of those to my 'read next' list. Sounds fabulous.

I just finished the first in the trilogy of the Josephine Bonaparte historical fiction ones. The title is really long, "The Secret Lives and Sorrows of Josephine B" or something like that. Very good. I also just got around to reading "The Alchemist" and loved it.

you are always my go-to when i need something new to read. my list of books recommended by gabi is LONG! i'm adding these to my list. so thanks for always posting what you're reading. i love it.

but, i must say. i am a monogamous reader. one at a time for me. (well unless they are completely different genres. i CAN read a parenting book and a historical fiction at the same time, for example. unfortunately, i'm always reading a parenting book!)

I don't have enough brain power to read more than one at a time. The little ones suck it all out of me.

I have been wanting to read that Haven Kimmel.

I just finished "The White Queen" and LOVED it.

I'm a three timer right now. Just finished The Help which I absolutely loved and even though I finished it, I am still basking in its beauty. The Titans Curse from the Percy Jackson series-I read the first two and am struggling through this one but its still a back up when I need a fun kids book. Lastly, I am mostly reading Devotion by Dani Shapiro. So far I really like it. Its a bit like Eat Pray Love but better. I didn't really like EPL. Its a womans search for spiritual answers-something I'm kind of doing myself. I think I'll be giving Haven Kimmel a try-I love to giggle and snort by the pool.

I loved The Forgotten Garden! I bought it (pretty much by accident) when I was flying to Australia this spring. Cannot wait for the next book of this author to come out.

Lately I'm accumulating more novels than I'm reading. I get all excited to start one, buy it, put it on my night stand for soon, move it to my desk for later, and then feel guilty about not reading it. Finally it's added to the stack of books on the "read these before I buy any more" shelf. (But I just added your suggestion to my Amazon shopping cart!)

I can only read one book at a time (I am surprised that I can actually chew gum and walk, to be honest) but I wanted to tell you thank you for your recommendations.

I really liked "Dream When You're Feeling Blue". Except for the end. I hated that part. I'm anxious to hear what you think.

Love love love The Forgotten Garden. LOVE it! Did you read The House at Riverton? Same author. Loved it too.

I read one book at a time, unless I've got a "how-to" or self-help book that I'm also reading.

I enjoyed The Forgotten Garden, and really liked She Got Up Off the Couch (better than Zippy).

My favorite Haven Kimmel book is The Solace of Leaving Early - fiction, and not funny like her bios, but beautifully written.
