Saturday on the Sevens or Does Hopping In & Out of the Car For 12 Hours Count as Cardio?

This photo was totally staged...but the rest are an accurate account of my crazy Saturday. Enjoy.

Why did I bother?

Did I mention Daddy is out of town?

Did I mention I have been looking at this square on my calendar with complete dread for weeks?

Don't worry...it's a red light.

I was Backstage Mom for the dance recital...

I think the experience guarantees a spot in heaven.

Direct quote: "My favorite was the belly dancers."

The title for this afternoon is "En Route."

What's a busy Saturday without a birthday party?

Or another ball game?

Just moments after this snap, Sam fell off the bench and whacked his head obscenely on the table.

(BTW, just exactly what is the polite response to "You've sure got your hands full"?? I'm not sure whether to say "Thanks!" or "Really?" or "But this is us on a goooood day!" Your suggestions appreciated...)

Aloha!

Do you see that huge bump on his noggin? Me neither. He's fine.

I just remembered, I'm substituting in Primary tomorrow.

I love my kids so much right now.

The photographer was only too happy to stay up past bedtime to complete his assignment.

This day was brought to you by: Coppertone Sport, Wendy's Drive-thru, Allison the Babysitter, Purell, Aunt Cami who sent the twins' awesome t-shirts, Wachovia ATM, Ghiradelli semi-sweet morsels and Excedrin PM.

WOW! To think you had enough presence of mind to record the whole thing for posterity. Good stuff.

Your boys are extremely awesome, as are their shirts.

I had to record it, Ro. The only thing getting me through the hideousness of this day (and believe me it WAS so much more hideous than it looks...because you can't recreate heat, humidity and car odors on a blog) was the fact that I could share it online with all of you...

ABsolutley that counts as cardio, for an entire week.

We spent 3 hours in the 104 temperatures watching soccer. And then came home to our house with it's broken A/C. And Rachel sprained her ankle and is very loud about it. We had a great day too.

Wow, you sure do have your hands full.

I never know what to say to that either. How about, DUH???

Bless your heart, Gab. That was quite a day. Thank goodness for Ghiradelli.

My usual responses to "You've sure got your hands full"?? depending on my mood:

1. You don't say?
2. I don't believe in spanking
3. My mom always told me that idle hands do the devil's work so I like to keep busy
4. I'm training them for the Olympics
5. I wouldn't have it any other way
6. I tried those kiddie leashes but they kept getting tangled up with other people in the grocery line so I gave up.

Yup, I really am that snarky in real life. I guess my question is, what does it mean that people say "you sure have your hands full" when I only have one or two of the kids with me?? doh!

You made it! I hope at 11:07 you were blissfully asleep. When people say you've sure got your hands full my husband replies "happily so," whether he believes it at the moment or not :)

I LOVE how you mentioned all of the sponsors at the end. Way to roll the credits, Gabi.

I think your day does count as cardio...why aren't I thinner?

I am sort of getting offended by the, "you have your hands full" comment. Lately it has sounded very backhanded to me. I guess I am just cranky because it is already too hot for me in Georgia.

I didn't realize "you sure have your hands full" was an insult! I say it all the time, and what I mean is:

"Wow! You are awesome! I know how hard it is. Even though I have empty hands now, I used to have my hands full, too. Hang in there! Bless you. Good luck!"

I'm going to post about this. Come and give suggestions of how we older moms can encourage younger moms without seeming to criticize.

Oh WOW!

You survived. Impressive! I loved this post.

I like "DUH" or "shut up" as responses to "you sure have your hands full". I dare you.

Oy VEY! I am glad you made it! I hate it when just as you are sitting down to relax, you realize you have something else to do. HATE THAT!

I can't believe you had the wherewithal to make that day amusing and interesting. Thanks for having my life only better.

I LOVE your travelogue! I'll have to try that someday. Though I'm afraid that every hour on the "7's" I might be yelling at my kids! Hmmm....

Holly said...

Well, I guess I won't say you had your hands full all day. :)

I think it's great you documented all the craziness--it's a survival mechanism.

Brilliant idea for a post. I love, love, love it.

I love it that much more because it was your day and not mine. Remind me when summer comes and all the madness ends?

Or does it just begin?

Love this post. Ethan has the same awesomeness shirt. Also, I was a backstage mom at a dance recital last week too. Those dance always seem to happen when the husband is out of town, right?

Ah, sneaking into the chocolate chips?

You are a girl after my own heart.

Loved spending the day with you.

LOVE this! Sounds like a jam packed day. But you survived! And you'll be even better next time. And you know there will be a next time. Ghiradelli chocolate sure helps ease the hideousness of the day, right?

One question. WHAT were you watching on T.V. at 8:07?

Hey Gabi, so good to catch up with you again. John sent me the link to this one, quite funny. Look what i have to look forward to. Hey that's one thing to be said about Homeschooling the kids now...they have less friends to drive them around to, HA HA! j/k. Anyway i usually can't help but get frustrated when people ask the hands full question and bite my tongue and say something like, "They are good kids." Maybe it's just me but i wanted thismany kids so why go through life thinking that they are overwheliming me, instead just try and enjoy the moments, like you obviously did here. Great way to have some fun in life and not wait until they are all gone.

Love you, Nicola
