It's Not You...It's Me

Dear Blog,

I'm breaking up with you.

Just for a little while...I think.

Not that I haven't loved our time together. You have been at my side almost 2 1/2 years and we've been through a lot. Accidents (both bike and potty). Unemployment. Sickness. Snow Days.

Thanks to you, I've found the humor in the everyday. I've seen the beauty in my children's faces. I've come out of my shell, drawn closer to faraway family and made a whole bunch of great new friends.

But the truth is--you're starting to crowd me a little. I feel you breathing down my neck. The kids say something cute or funny and my first thought is, "Oh, I'd better tell Blog!" When I hear a great song or read a good book, I wonder, "Does Blog know about this?" I plant a garden/bake a cake/get my hair cut, but find the act incomplete unless I share it with you. It's creepy.

I hate to say it, but I've grown tired of being witty for your sake. Sucking in my stomach to look good for you. Feeling like I have to check in all the time.

And, I think you're too nice to say so, but you're getting a tad bored with me too, right? All the whining and complaining? The self-righteous opinions and hair obsessions? I know. It's enough to drive any blog crazy.

So. I'm not suggesting anything permanent, but let's give each other some space, k? A few months on a break. You know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Hoping to feel fonder soon.

Your friend,
Gabi

I've decided to try living blog-free this summer. (Maybe longer, if I like it.) Because I want to finish things off with a bang, however, I will post one last time next week. So, if you have any burning questions for me to answer or some good advice for a recovering blogaholic, please post in the comment section and we can share with the whole class.
p.s. I will still be reading YOUR blog, so don't get any ideas...

What the...? So are you saying that your real friends and family come before us? You're just not that into us? What are you really getting at? Maybe we can try counseling. Or is that just me that will need counseling?

Oh I SOOO understand and get this. Which is why I post about once a week these days. I'll miss you this summer.

Have you heard Elder Bednar's latest CES fireside talk? It's on the front page of the church website and it is SO pertinent to all this virtual stuff. VERY good.

LOVE YOU!!!!

I know, I had to "quit" too. It was becoming a co-dependent relationship. I might still post from time to time . . because I have to make comments on the Bachelorette. . .:) Come back to us. We love you.

Hi, Gab. Long time reader, first time commenter. I found you a while ago because I have twin boys through IVF. My computer said you and I should be BFF's. At any rate, I just wanted to let you know that I love reading your blog and I will miss you while you're gone - but I get it. Have a great blog-free summer! (And my vote is that it's not a permanent break-up as well...)

I am SO with you on this! Totally understand. I'm kind of doing it already just haven't announced I guess. :) Have a great summer and don't stay away too long!

Is this a cruel joke?!? NO, you can't leave! Your blog is my chance to see my nephews and niece grow up and feel a bit closer to the action than I really am! I'm so sad. So very sad. sniff - sniff - sniff.

Gab, we will miss your blog posts! You are a great writer, interesting, funny, insightful. And cute. However, I totally get the burnout/overload and I hope you enjoy your blogcation!

While I totally understand what you're saying, I have to throw in my pouting temper tantrum right here. Please don't give it up completely. We need to get a sneak peek at your life!

I'm sorry, but I understand. You will be greatly missed by all! It was because of your great blogs that I even tried!

I love your blog and enjoy reading all that you write. I especially enjoyed the Kentucky Derby posts. But I understand the need to take a break. I have really backed off on the posts on my blog.

I have you on reader, so I will know when (and if) you are back!

Enjoy your vacay!

Just promise to give us another chance in the fall. You will be missed. Just the other day I was driving and thinking about how much I enjoy your blog because I enjoy your writing. You are hilarious and poignant and real. Please come back to us!

I may join you. I think blogging is making me fat. (does that sound like a valid excuse?)
I hope you enjoy your guilt-free, relaxed summer! :)

I hope you and your blog will still be able to stay friends after the break up.

Enjoy your blogation!

You are brave. I quit all the time and then make a comeback and remember how much I love it. I find posting about once a week has been good for late lately. Have a fun blogless summer! Is that even possible? We shall see!

There's some pressure in having a blog, isn't there? It is so hard the balance all the "good" things out there. I hope you'll write every now and then, because you are an amazingly talented writer!

Breaks are the best. I'll miss you, but seriously... I. GET. IT.
But you better come back... but I'm not too worried about it. You're going to want to. I promise!

I hope you don't start some sort of movement! (stopping the blogging world) I will miss hearing about your life. love, aunt polly

I am so very sad. I love your blog and your witty writing!!! But maybe this will give me a chance to work on my questions (geez!) and I can be done with them by the time you come back. ;) Your blog is my favorite! I will miss it dearly. I hope you have one heck of a summer!

P.S. Missing you already....

I think it's great that you are in tune enough to know when a break is needed. I love reading your blog. In fact as soon as I am done with this comment I have to go read a recent post you did on good reads. I need help parenting my nine year old...

THANKS for all your whit and wisdom I will miss it, but clearly you have your priorities straight.

I'm too sad to comment. I'll listen to your rants, I'll comment every day, I'll appreciate you more, I'll tell you my feelings . . . can't we stay together? Just for the kids' sake? (Can I have custody of all your readers?)

Jenibelle said...

Ok. So this is just a trial separation...not a divorce? How 'bout counseling? Can we still be friends? What about all the kids? Palimony? So many unanswered questions. I guess we will just have to hash out all this confusion in person...I'll be there on the 17th, keep the porch light on!

Can't wait!!

I will miss you, but it's all so true. It is good to document and share memories, but...I like myself better when I don't live on a stage and nothing is contrived.

You are awesome and I will wait for your return.

I get this post because of several of the points you mentioned.

It felt really good to read and comment on the posts you published while I was gone. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your kind, encouraging comments and generosity and that you called the Manhattan temple in my behalf.
