Mrs. Claus One Year Later

Ever like to go back in your journal and see what you were doing exactly one year ago? I checked my blog to see how was feeling LAST December 20th and had to laugh. I feel the exact same way...tired.

It's not lazy to post this again, is it? Just call it tradition.

Mrs. Claus is tired tonight. She's had a long day shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, laundering and adding those all-important final touches. Her in-laws' sleigh lands tonight, so she wants the North Pole to look just right. And the elves have not been so helpful.

While Santa gets the glory for all the big-ticket items, Mrs. C. sometimes feels picked on. Does anyone notice she has a big ole stingin' paper cut right between her thumb and index finger? Christmas card casualty. Does anyone care that all the teachers/coaches/bus drivers/neighbors have been remembered? With big jaunty bows and matching gift tags! Does anyone realize that all this Christmas magic has been generated by the Claus without the whiskers?! Ho Ho No.

This post is dedicated to all you Mrs. Claus-types out there. You, the unpaid masses, laboring in kitchens and classroom parties and dollar stores everywhere. You, who do your regular-every-day stuff and then tuck your children into bed so you can start in on the "holiday shift". You, who realize that Christmas is actually another full time job from Thanksgiving til New Year's Day. (Which, unfortunately happen to also be the shortest days of the year!) I salute you all.

Yes, Virginia. There is a Santa Claus. But there is also a Mrs. Claus. And tonight she's very tired...

Amen. I actually woke up at 4:00 AM and couldn't get back to bed I was so worried about everything I have to do.

Tis the season to be jolly!?

Reposting is for excellent bloggers. Like you. It's called "highlights." Like our hair, everyone needs 'em.

I also get to throw in two birthdays and an anniversary. Unfortunately one of those birthdays is mine and no one ever seems to have energy to celebrate it. Whoa is me...I'm tired too!

Christmas is like having a baby. You love the end result so much you forget the pain that goes before.
And if Mrs. Claus didn't take care of the extras, who would?

You say things so well!!

So true. You do write it well.
I guess I'm not sure where my Norman Rockwell portrait went. I am not the serene mother gently smiling while looking adoringly on her beautiful kids. I am the half-crazy frizzy haired mad woman who could crumble under the weight of a dirty toilet right now. Is this what Christmas is about?

Your Mrs. Claus is so much better than ours. Shhh. Don't tell my family.

Gab, you're wonderful! Thanks for the laugh. I loved it just as much the second time :)

Poor Mrs. Claus--one year later and still tired. Hopefully things are winding down at least a bit. Take a moment with some hot cocoa and rest.

You nailed it. This is exactly how I feel, especially about doing all of our regular stuff and then doing the holiday shift once the kids are in bed. I hope it is okay that I linked to you yesterday on my blog. I just had to share this because it was so clever and cute.

Every year I SWEAR I'm going to get my Christmas shopping done early and I am going to simplify and do less.

I'm tired and I'm going to bed.

I wholeheartedly agree. We do all the work, and get none of the credit. Story of a mother's life.

Praise be for all the Mrs. Clauses. Without them, Santa wouldn't know which way was up...

Well said! I completely agree - why does Santa get all the credit? This Mrs. Claus is pretty dang tired too. But it ended up being worth it.
