Day in DC

Sometimes you don't need a week-long vacation.

Sometimes all you need is a day away from the daily grind, spent with someone who makes you happy.

Thursday, I drove down to Washington to spend the day with my little sister.

No husbands, no kids, no parents or siblings.

Just Amy, me and the Obamas...

...they were everywhere!

Lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill, shopping, walking, talking and enjoying the architecture.

Amy is getting very skinny. But I still love her.

We felt very urban.

A former art major and designer, Amy helps me see the beauty in all kinds of spaces and places.

Thanks, Sis! You were the perfect companion for a perfect day.

How fabulous--what cute sisters. Good for you! I kind of miss DC.We used to go to the Old Ebbitt Grill all the time...Greg's office was right by there. Doesn't it feel like an old boy's club?

The Mac and Cheese at Old Ebbitt is one of my favorite things to eat in all of DC. What a great trip, makes me homesick.

I ate many a meal at the Old Ebbitt Grill. Used to work for the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross. Thanks for the memory.

Glad you had such a perfect outing with your sister! In my odd litle mind, I had my own little Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (or Gabi) because we ate at Old Ebbitt Grill 4 weeks ago(and loved it--feeling slightly hip & cool--but not).

Love that red door too.

I remember being in NYC with the two of you! And once with you and B-rad on the very day the Monica Lewinski story broke. I'm glad two great travelers hooked up for the day.

What fun! My 4 sisters and I (along with Mom before she passed) would do a little trip called "The J.U.G. trip" for "just us girls"! I miss roaming around the DC area from when I lived in Nothern Virginia, I miss that too! Thanks for sharing

When do my kids get old enough for me to leave them with the husband for a day or two?

He could probably handle the boys but the boys and the baby girl would send him over the edge. He is still a bit of a rookie, I suppose.
