Two Years Ago

This photo was taken in 2005. My darling mother-in-law made these fall outfits for the cuties. She is a saint. That has not changed. Jake enjoyed making goofy faces. That has not changed either.

Em was sporting her "I-did-it-myself" pixie 'do. She went through an intensive six-month independent study barbering course. Actually I think she did Jake's too. Thankfully that has changed. Now she has enrolled in the "Customize Your White-Painted Furniture with Black Sharpie" home decorating course.

Luke was looking sad because I had taken away his blankie for the photo. The blankie-love has not changed either. Actually it seems to have become more intense as the blanket gets greyer and smellier.

Sam was holding his leg straight because he had just finished wearing a full-length cast for six weeks. He had broken his femur and wore a bright blue spica-type plaster thing all along his leg and around his stomach. Of course, he was not potty-trained at this point which meant that the whole thing was an E-coli breeding ground. Thankfully, this has changed, too.

Sometimes you need to look back to realize how far you have come...and that you never want to go back again!

Ah, thank goodness life keeps getting better, no? Love the Emily School for Haircutting. Chase took a few lessons from Miss Em, and I'm glad they all passed that phase. YIKES.

It's good we all keep changing..I'm 54 and still trying to find the perfect hairdo...the perfect style, am I a cute middle aged woman? Am I a kind of softish grama? I think the 50's are kind of like the 20's and also the everchanging 1-20's of kids. Who ever said they didn't believe in evolution..we are walking around evolutioning every day.

That kind of sounds exhausting.

But I know it's not less exhausting now, is it?

I'll even bet there are moments when you miss those four kids you used to have! Memories are sometimes (a lot of times) better than real life. That's why I admire you for whipping out the camera whenever there's a catastrophe. No matter how bad it is, you acknowledge that it will be fun to look back on. Cute, cute guys.

What a great way to feel grateful for life as it is. It's fun to look at the way life was and say, "wow, I really kept up with all that?" Doesn't it make you feel good about yourself?

I've always been terrified my kids will enroll in that haircutting class. I am happy to say that they are still ignorant as far as that is concerned.

I love the outfits! So cute!

Bridget...You're right, looking at this does make me grateful. Looking at Sam's enormous baby head makes me grateful I had a c-section!

That is so cute! I don't miss it either, having 4 tiny kids. Now they are so old, but granted not as cute.

That is a darling picture of your kids. I noticed the fancy hairdo right away. It reminds me of Hayley Mills hair in that movie about the separated twins. Can't remember the name. Its late.

Min, Thanks for commenting!!! It's funny as soon as I read Celia's comment, I thought of you! I mean, how can anyone not have Parent Trap on the tip of their tongue at ALL times?
